Gordon House
Hello and welcome – I have moved your post so that you can get more replies. Frank
question about Gordon House itself, ive just applied to be a resident, my gambling addiction being that bad. I dont live far away, actually work in Birmingham, so I chose to drive past it this morning, 114 wellington St., I dont wish to be rude at all, but it doesnt look much from the outside, would this be the same gordon House id be spending 9 months at?

Re: Gordon House
hi there rockbottomPaul
My husband is in GH as we speak I took him there and went to his room, it was fine it has everything you need if you want to beat your compulive gambling If you want help with your gambling the best palce you can ever be is GH belive me. It is not luxurious, but who cares, it is run by a registered charity, and they know exactly what they are doing.
9 months in GH is the best nine months you could ever spend I dont think 114 is where you will be, the other GH is down the road. However if you want a different life being gambling free you will take this oportunity rockbottom paul, if you are ready to face your demons, it is not an easy ride, however you will have a better future.
I hoep you go for it
all my love betty xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Gordon House
i do want to beat it...really i do, ive not left many options open to me, most have turned their back on me, sadly my parents are unable to buy me a car necessary to keep my job. I have a well paid job which i love...i sold my sportscar 2 weeks ago to pay a few debts and gambled the rest away. I have no car, just renting one at the moment. I need advice as what to do next week...i cant afford to rent again. Im stranded. What do i tell my employer, surely they'll sack me?...ive been to the doctor who said they would sign me off for a few weeks...help me please..im desperate.

Re: Gordon House
Hi rockbottomPaul, Gordon House is the best thing I have ever done. I have less than 2 weeks left now and it has changed my views on most things and given me the chance to make something of my life. It almost sounds as though you are making all the excuses in the world. If you really want to give up then you should apply to Gordon House. You wouldn't need the job or the car. You only need support and you would get that off the community and the staff here. You would get signed off by the doctor and you could give yourself the best chance of success by coming here. This program really works. You have asked for the help, now you just need to reach out and accept it!

Re: Gordon House
Paul...
The building your talking about is the office and not the project.. GH has 2 projects, One in the West Midlands and One in London, the norm is to take you out of your enviroment.. so you might find you get offered a place in London, only the powers above have the answer to that one.
As too the rest.. this is a nine month project, so the chances of you keeping a job are remote. But be honest with you, the way your going will you keep a job anyway?
Why dont you log onto the helpline and talk to an advisor, they will be able to give you more info as too how the logistics work
Take Care

Re: Gordon House
thankyou everyone for your comments...i feel positive today, and i want to do this so much now, ive completed the forms and will post them tomorrow. Ive got a doctors appointment tomorrow to sign off work, my health is far more important. My dad has paid this months rent and my ex girlfriend supports my decision, i owe it to them as well as myself to rid this addiction. I even cant remember what a gambling free life is like anymore.
I feel more comfortable about applying now that ive spoke to an advisor and been reassured about the program. I'll let you all know how i get on.
onwards and upwards Paul

Re: Gordon House
Well done Paul. Let me know how it's going in here. Our son was accepted in June to go to London, but we turned it down at the time. Now we know how foolish we were to do that and don't know if he will apply again. We have thrown him out to try and make him see what he has to do to beat this addiction. Good luck in your recovery, you will succeed, stay focussed.
