      Hi all,

I am new here and need to vent a bit …. I hate myself for wasting my money on Gambling (VLT and Online) …. I keep cha sing my losses and even then I keep gambling to make more and hit the bonus and end up losing it all anyways
The more I play the more I spend …. I used to play 40 $ for fun now I can spend 400 $ in one sitting and hate myself afterward but keep going after a few days …. I have a hard time sleeping thinking about it and lie about
the amount of money I put in … I maybe lost 2000 $ in the last few months … I don’t understand how I can be cheap on other stuff but can spend a fortune n VLT’s ,,, I want to quit but can’t and it makes me scared

I am really desperate and can’t get this addiction out of my head

      Thanks 🙁

Hello Scot, well done on looing for help, you now have a lot of support available to you.

Take a look at the other stories here, you will read a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories and the sorts of things that have helped others stop.

One of the things you will read is how barriers can help.

You keep going back after a few days? Ok well you won’t be able to do that if you get yourself banned from where ever it is that you gamble. If that is a bricks and mortar establishment then have no money on you when you go to exclude, then you can’t be tempted. if it is online then exclude now, while you don’t want to gamble.

Does anyone close to you know that you gamble? Or that it is a problem? If you could be honest with someone then they could help you with financial accountability so that you can’t access gambling funds so easily.

Planning your time is important as well, fill both time and thoughts with things away from gambling.

Your thread says you want to quit forever. Forget forever, it is waaaaay to scary. You just need to do the things that will help you quit today. We can all choose to not gamble today. Then do the same things tomorrow.

We also have an App with a lot of great recovery tools and resources.

Keep posting and let us know what positive steps that you are taking. Hopefully see you in a group here soon as well.

      Thanks for the reply

I have a friend that knows yes but I have talked to him before about this but it never stopped me … my partner knows I gamble but she doesnt have a clue how money I waste and she doesnt know I went online as well ….. Its true i have to take it a day at a time …. I cant get banned because I go any places there is a few VLT … I enjoy sitting down with a drink and play .. the problem is I cant stop …. I might have to quit drinking for a while cause the cravings and self control is worse … sometimes I feel I am doomed to gambling and will have to live with it …. when I think about all the money I have lost I feel like crying ….

If you gamble in many places then this is where the accountability will help. Your partner could help with that. Just carry the money you need on a daily basis, then you can’t play those machines without messing your day up, an immediate consequence.

Drinking can weaken anyone’s defences buy if you do go for a drink Ty hen again, just carry the money you need for the drinks you plan to have.

The App here has details of various blockers that will stop the online gambling.

I thought I was destined to always gamble as wet. Then I looked around a room at Gamblers Anonymous and saw people just like me who weren’t gambling.

I have to stop going to those places altogether … I don’t want to spend another dime in those machines … but I know in a week from now it will be a different story and it scares me ….

This is the point I am making. Put things in place NOW while you don’t want to gamble and in a week’s time if/when urges return you will be less able to gamble.
