Hello guys.
My names Robert I’m a 28 year old male. I have been battling gambling for the past 10 years and it’s really got to the point where it’s beat me into the ground. Usual story I started off playing 5p fruit machines when I was young and it’s now escalated into me wagering £1000 + a hand on the blackjack table. Gambling has got so much control over me it scares Me. I’m self medicating myself with Valium after heavy loses to numb the pain and missing days off work. I just can’t seem to refrain from it. My partner knows I gamble but not to the extent I do. We are expecting a baby girl in a few months and I need someone to help me get on the straight and narrow. I just tonight got myself debt free by hard gambling at a blackjack table I took the money and vowed never to return. I hated myself for it but it was the only legal way I knew possible to accumulate £15,000 in such a short space of time then I came straight to this website. Gamblers anonymous is too far away from where I live so I cannot attend. I thought I would drop you guys a line on chance that someone can help me even if it’s just talking before I lose everything.

Hi Robert
I would strongly advise that u immediately put gambling blockers on all your devices – trust me it will examined well spent . Also get someone else to manage that money – we all think we won’t gamble it – we all end up doing it -hope this helps -

It is a nightmare Robert as you know. I have been gambling hard for 17 years and have tried so many times to stop and here I am again. I have been receiving treatment from the National Problem Gambling Clinic in London it’s definitely worth giving them a ring and getting yourself on the list, it’s helped me out loads. This is a structured program to help people like us stop gambling but ultimately like any addiction it has got to come from the soul of the addict. If you really want to stop and can admit you have a problem then it becomes just that little bit easier that said it’s still very hard to overcome those desires to gamble but you can do it, like any addiction the cravings come and go but you do have to battle through them. I have just thrown myself into my work to try and keep my mind off gambling. I’m on day 44 today, it’s one of the longest periods I haven’t gambled for in 17 years so it can be done one day at a time. Keep batting on Robert!!

I have been searching high and low for some software that can block gambling apps on my phone but I’ve yet to find one.

I mutley im from Ireland we don’t have such clinics here. Tho I noticed the Gordon Moody centre in England this is something that would really help me but I would never be allowed 12 weeks off work. I’ve tried counselling but they just didn’t understand the illness enough to help me. This website is my only way of help.

I noticed their website before. It stops me entering gambling websites but they have no way of stopping an app.

Hi Robert, you asked a question right at the end of the group. I hope you can make a later group and I can expand on my answer.
What is said in a group remains in a group so I won’t answer here unless you ask the question here.
Well done on the steps that you are already taking.

Hi Robert,
It was good to meet you in Charles’ Group last night. I notice from your thread that you are in Ireland. There are GA meetings in almost every town and city in Ireland. Google Gamblers anonymous Ireland and you will see the list. Also there are numbers you can call to get immediate help. Give it a shot. You have too much to lose by gambling, especially with a new baba on the way! -
