Hi Everyone,
Gambling has been a big part of my family life and I’ve enjoyed it recreationally for many years.
I dabbled with advantage gambling including card counting and loved the thrill of outsmarting the casino and having an edge. However, it was not until I discovered poker that I became obsessed.
I thought I found my true calling in life, where I could use my skills at math, probability, and strategy to make a living gambling. I spent the last 2 years studying the game intensely and
working my way up through the stakes. I never really saw poker as true gambling (like I did with blackjack for example) and loved the challenge and social aspect of playing live poker.
However, the past few months have been an absolute disaster (losing huge pots to bad players who got lucky) and have crushed my bankroll and my emotional stability.
I’m well educated and am in the process of looking for a stable career since I’ve lost all of my savings, but am still not sure if I am a problem gambler and will return to poker once I start making money in my career.
Is this something I should seek help with to prevent future problems?

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care
The Gambling Therapy Team

The only person who can decide if you are a problem gambler is YOU. But I notice that you have already sought help by coming onto this website.
There are the 20 questions set by GA (Gamblers’ Anonymous) which may help you decide … they suggest you have a problem if you answer more than 7 of these positively. (I tick about 17!)
Certainly, if you find yourself “chasing losses” then I would seek help as this is not normal behaviour and one of the signs that there may be problems. I wish you well.

Hello there….
I have a problem gambling!!
you said, in your first post, that you have lost all your savings….my opinion is that this fact indicates a problem gambling.
I am trying to not lose all my savings . I have lost some and am trying to get this gambling problem under control.
I wish you the best.
