I’m a 43 years old man living in Malta. I’m a recovering CG. I’m originally Norwegian and live with my wife and son. I’ve been gamble free, or at least not having made deposits for 14 days.

I was just forced to resign from my job 4 days ago. I was in reality fired, but had the opportunity to formally resign.

My situation is that I have been a cg ever since I as a child discovered money and discovered that money can be won by games of chance. It was probably for the best that I grew up in a country where gambling is illegal, except for state lottery and such.

I played low stakes slot games in Norway, not really slots, but some version with pennies. That never amounted to any problems because of the low stakes. It was with the first traveling abroad I had the opportunity to play more classic slots, and I was immediately hooked, also because of many lucky streaks.

The problems didn’t begin until the advent of online casinos in the 2000’s. Of course that changed everything. Fully fledged casino gaming online in Norway. I was caught. The story is long and I’ll elaborate this diary thread with more background later.

So to jump in time. I landed a job in the online casino industry in sunny Malta. The online gaming hub of Europe. Guess what happened next.. Rhetorical question. Yeah, lots of debts and suffering for my wife and son.

      Thanks for this website!!

It was cut a little short here. Situation now is I’m looking for a new job, and need it within a month or preferably a few weeks. But my greatest assets professionally are insights into casino industry. So I’m somewhat at my wits end.

      Hi Gemen,
welcome to the forum. Is your job in the industry immersed in the act of gambling somehow (not asking you to specify) and so you feel applying for work in your industry will make it difficult for you to stay away from gambling yourself?
If that is the case you may have to make a difficult choice and try and find work in a different industry. If your wife is standing by you is she also helping with the finances? We feel terrible when we have to face the consequences but i know I’ve been able to get over that feeling before.
Keep reading and posting. It helps to have the support of the community. Gives us advice and I know sometimes it’s been the thought of coming here and posting that I gambled that stopped me long enough to think.
Take care, have a gamble free day!
      Laura

Gemen, first of all welcome my friend, Laura is right in saying you are in a little bit of a tricky spot with regards to your work situation, I know I couldn’t work in the industry because I would be to tempted but I can only speak for me.

Keep sharing, keep posting and hope you are keeping well, I haven’t been posting a lot recently but read everything everyday, I find it helps me and I can relate to so many people on here, like you I wish them all well.

Take care and there is light at the end of the tunnel I promise you that.
