1st of all i am new to this “world”. Ive wanted to gamble since i was in high school but my country law prohibit Muslim from entering casino. the problem started when i am on vacation with friends to the neighboring country(Singapore) , that allow us to enter. $25 that i bring turn into $7500,wow!! easy money,i manage to leave the casino happily with that money.Since that “lucky” day, i couldn’t stop thinking about slot machine. I wanted to play so badly but i cant find a place to do so. The problem started to get worse when i discover that i can play it on the net,i bet everything that i have, i win some but later on there is nothing left in my pocket. In the month of November itself ive already spend approximately 10000 MYR (Equivalent to 19000 British Pound) . I cant live like this anymore. I need to live a happy life like others. Please someone give me a good advice on it.

Kdn 24 y/o Malaysia . I am not a native speaker. Im sorry if you cannot understand my writing.. Thanks

Welcome to GT and congrats on looking for help. There is help available here and at Gamblers anonymous meetings, counselling, rehabs. You can ban from places you gamble depending on your area. Try to limit money you have available and don’t carry cards or lots of cash on you just the minimum.
When you get urges try to do something else and start getting involved in other things and adding other things into your day.
Keep posting here and recording your progress, just keep trying and you will get support here. Make recovery your priority, you have to really want it, and if you do then there is a lot of hope that this addiction can be put far into the background.
I hope you keep posting, glad to read your story. Keep going, no matter what just never give up trying. Theres all different stories here, some don’t get it straight off some do, whichever way you go keep trying. We have only lost when we give up on recovery.
Hang on to it just one day at a time, just get through today thats all you have to do.

Hello again and it is good you managed 24 hours… although you have started again don’t give up. use this point to be your stopping point. Just start over. If you are losing money via internet gambling why not try a blocker on your computer like bet filter or K9 i think its called? These will block the sites from your computer.
Start over, find some things to put into your day don’t just sit there thinking of gambling or not gambling as this only leads to urges, try to find some things to do. Do something you have wanted to do for a while but put off, clean, cook , watch movies, read, fix things, wash the car, go for a walk, talk to a friend, eat something really delicious, do a puzzle, crossword, go to the movies, watch a dvd, write a list of all the things you would like to do that don’t involve gambling. As soon as that first thought comes into your mind grab onto something else and start focusing on that. Urges will always pass, it just takes waiting them out a little. Put off the desire to gamble for ten minutes, it won’t hurt you.. then another ten minutes and so on.. Use this time now to try to stop. See if there is a gamblers anonymous meeting in your area. The days will add up and you will start to feel better. Hang on and don’t let go, if you fall down get back up but don’t give up on giving up….

I am so grateful to find this site just in the nix of time I have been gambling for about 4 years on slot machines. Losing and still returning, with every dime I get. I work so hard only to spend it on machines. I am so ashamed of myself I. Ctry to hide my addiction by lying to my love ones. I don’t like the person I have become so much isolation and lying. I want to found my way back to living my life being happy and healthy.

Hi Kdn! Like you I won a large amount of money the first time I went into the casino. I felt like I was stealing the money and asked my girlfriend to leave the casino with me immediately after they paid me. I knew I had a gambling problem the second time I went into the casino with my sister-in-laws. We were visiting the city as my husband’s daughter was having a wedding shower. When it came time to go to the shower, I was very reluctant to leave, as I was up $300. I shared my winnings with them and we left, even though had I had a choice, I would have stayed instead of going to a boring wedding shower. The worse thing that can happen to a person in a casino is to win the first time they go. That sets up thinking that a person will win every time they go, and it sets up greedy thinking. If a person is up with their money, they want to be up more, and they think that if they keep gambling, the machine has to hit. It took me a long time to understand the concept of what it meant chasing our losses. As compulsive gamblers, we cannot stop and will only leave the venue when we don’t have anymore access to cash to gamble with. That is why recovery is so important. Gambling addiction is a progressive disease, so unless a person gets support and gets into recovery, their life will become worse and worse, and the person will become more emotionally ill. You’ve gotten some really good advice from people that have already posted as to how to put barriers up so that you can’t gamble. Learn all you can about the disease and learn how to work recovery before this disease takes everything good from you. Wishing you a gamble free day. Carole

      Hello my Friend
(Friend cause i know your feeling, i am experiencing it every day)
Firs few year when i started to gamble i was doing it to win, but last 2-3 year i am not gambling to win, does not meter how much i will win i can not stop before i will not loose everything. i become from good guy to nobody, when i am in casino i dont remember anything and anyone (in that moment i don`t care even about my mother) i have huge amount of debts from banks, from all of people who i know and Atc. I did not sleep last 3 year normally even one night. i lost everybody who i had, who wanted all the best for me, now my only “friends” are people who i know from casino, cause except them none wants to be with me anymore, they are fed up of me. ( i can understand them)
I am cheating everybody. I lost house which one i`ve got from my grandparents.
You think that you are in worth situation? it`s not true my friend, you have to do everything what you can and what you think that you can not, to came out from this shit before it`s not late. Before you are not 100%gambler, before you will not gamble to hear sound of roulette or slot machine.
Trust me my friend that you can quit. Never think that you will be lucky and you will win money which you loose.

I don`t wish to the enemy this kind of life what i have.

When you stop gambling, your life will improve permanently, and you will reclaim your life that you once had before
      Kind Regards
      Gio

Tell the truth about your gambling to someone you know and trust. Lying to ourselves and others goes with gambling. If you can get support from a loved one or trusted friend then please do it. Come back here if you need to.

Hi Desdamona dont know if you are still on this site but just wanted to say I really got your story! I am 2 weeks and 2 days free today. Slots were my thing. Helps to read stories and realise others have thought the same crazy things when gambling compulsively. Thanks hope you are well.
