Hi, this is my first time here, I’ve registered today, before it gets out of hand, its already affecting me, around ten years ago I was gambling pretty bad, all online, slot machines, I got into debt around £7,000 I managed to pay it all off and have since bought a home with my partner, he doesn’t know about my gambling, around four years ago I had a go on a site lost around £1,000 and realized what I was doing and joined GameStop, which helped, but then around three weeks ago a site came up on my phone and I joined, it wasn’t part of GameStop so I was in, I played the same slot over and over and one point I was £2,000 up and requested a withdrawal, but before it was processed I played it all away, I am not down around £3,000 over the last three weeks, and I cant stop thinking about that money, I need to stop before my partner finds out, before I ruin everything before I am in debt. I am a 39 year old woman who enjoys the finer things so why am I doing this??

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums.

Here at Gambling Therapy, we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum, you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum, so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group on Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
      Take care.

      Hi Marie4,

It is good that you joined our forum and we hope you will find support here.

Regarding your gambling problem – have you considered talking to your partner? I know it can be difficult, but if you tell him it will be harder for you to gamble and hide it from him.

You can also try to answer your own question, ‘Why am I doing this?’ Sometimes, it helps to take a step back from a specific experience and reflect on it.
