So I will talk to my parents about my gambling tomorrow. Keep in mind I’m 41 years old and have been keeping this to mostly myself for most of my life. I am hoping that sharing this with my mom and dad will help ease the shame I feel.

Has anybody gone through this experience in this way that will share some insight?

      Thank you

      Hi pilotdad,

Good decision to tell your parents. Whilst that’s never going to be easy my advice is to not just present them with the problem – show them what you are going to DO about it. Show them the barreirs you are putting in place, ask them to help with accountability. Show them the support you are using here and/or elsewhere. When I stopped gambling I’ve never seen my mum as happy as when I told her I was getting to GA meetings.

The actions that will help you stop gambling are the same actions that can help rebuild trust etc.

Show them this site as well – they can get support in the Friends and Family Forum and groups.
