Hello, my name is Kat. I’ve been a compulsive gambler for years and haven’t gone more than a couple days without gambling in all that time, at least not that I can currently recall. I am on day 13 of not gambling. I’m addicted to video poker and slots, and where I live there are two casinos for every block, so it’s in my face constantly. I resolved to not gamble for new years, but on the first day I spent all my rent money and that resolution was out the window. I spoke to my family and shared my frustration, and they suggested I “take a mulligan,” make the one time slip up not count and move forward. I did so with a new resolution: to not touch cash. I have gone 13 days without going to an ATM or hitting yes for cash back, so I have also gone 13 days without gambling. There is no local GA for me, so I have decided to reach out to an online community for support. I also made myself my own 30 day token out of recycled materials, and I plan to present it to myself when I hit 30 days.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to get real 30 day/90 day/1 year/etc… tokens by mail? I would love to build up a collection.

I’m worried constantly that I’ll relapse because I’ve never gone this long before, and my recovery seems so fragile right now. The truth is, I’m not fragile. I’m tough. I honestly believe I’m going through this for a reason and I will emerge at the other end, stronger and more financially and emotionally secure than ever. I don’t know what to say to other people going through the same thing; “hang in there” doesn’t seem adequate. You’re a superhero, how about that? We’re all superheroes.

I have been reading some experiences on the website and took a note from one of the logs to have myself voluntarily excluded from all local casinos. It took 30 minutes with an average phone call length of 1 minute to 20 casinos, but I have now convinced myself that I can no longer gamble. I know on some level this is not accurate, and that I could probably still get away with gambling at a number of casinos if I don’t log in to my players club because they don’t usually ask for id, but I don’t know WHICH ones I could get away with it at. I think I have established another layer of prevention from gambling.

      Hi kats,

Welcome to the forum and well done on day 13 without gambling.

With the current situation from the pandemic, many people are in a similar situation where they do not have access to a live local GA meeting they can attend. There are Zoom GA meetings however which take place online, you can see a list of upcoming meetings here – https://gamblersinrecovery.com/?s=

That also may be a good place to ask about getting tokens, or someone on here may have an answer for that.

There are also the various groups that take place on here, including the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK) which I find very useful.
