Deceit, such an ugly word
It’s when people cant believe a word that they’ve heard
When our gambling we’ve tried to hide
It’s hard to remember how much we’ve lied
Lies of fact – “I Wasn’t there”
“I didn’t gamble” I didn’t care.
Deciet though has many forms,
Those lies of fact are just one of it’s norms
For all the times that we may have lied
Another deceit is the things that we hide
The bills, the letters and those debts
Hiding the mail, feeling closed in by the net
Hiding the statements, all bank accounts
If they know that we gamble. we cant say the amount
There comes a time though it all closes in
And true recovery can only begin
When we replace our lies, and all that deceit
And replace them with two words that are the opposite
Honesty and openness might be hard to do
But they help a lot and are prettier too.
🙂
At the core of all deception
Lies a lack of self reflection
On our attitudes, behaviours and beliefs.
False interpretation and irrational correlation
Lead to lies, illusions, notions and deceit.
‘Til you overcome this practice
And pursue alternate tactics
Such as openness, awareness and clear truth
You will need to seek contrition
Accept change and opposition
To a lifestyle you decided to create
When you chose then, to continue
The deceit that lay within you
And resigned to attribute it to “fate”.
Call it lies, untruth or rumour
We know that we just humour
Our illusions when we try to fabricate.
But before we try to figure ways to stop this growing bigger
Let’s be honest with each other and ourselves
Even though the truth may hurt us-(lies will make our lives seem worthless)
Let’s get ready for self searching and deep delves!
love your poem, Charles.
