The best way I’ve found lately to get in to the Live Chat Groups is to click on “Helpline” at the very top of the page between the words Forums and Support Groups (all to the right of the big purple “gambling therapy”). If it is available you can click on the “Join” button for the group you want.

Remember: You can’t get in to the groups after the first 15 minutes, so you want to get there on time!

And if you’re trying to get in to the Live Advice Helpline – only one person at a time can chat with the advisor there, so you may be put in “que” (like being put on hold) until it’s your turn.

    I hope this helps.

I have to applaud you on your stamina and perseverance, Adele!
You never give up! I have found your “tips” really helpful. without them, I think I would have abandoned GT by now.
So thanks for your time, interest and effort!

Easily known you’re not a CG, because most CGs I know are impatient people…( except, “P”. She never gives up either!

Thanks for this information. I am finding the new site very confusing and very frustrating. Why only let people in on the first 15 minutes of a group. With the time difference I can not always be sure of the correct time to join in. When I was to talk to someone, barriers are going up. I am seriously thinking of giving up. Maybe the gliches is why people are contributing anymore?

    Hi Vera – Hi San,

The new site is challenging, I agree, and so many members seem to have all but disappeared … makes me sad. I’m so glad you’ve hung in here Vera. And I’m pleased to see your name on the forum again San. I really hope you don’t give up on GT just yet San. I believe they’re working very hard with stretched resources … kinda like all of us. **sad smile**

I’m guessing the 15 minute thing is intended to provide continuity in the sessions so that someone doesn’t come in to a conversation that has been going on for 30 minutes – I don’t know for sure.

I’m hoping they will do away with the time limit for now, at least until more people find their way to groups. I’ve had Velvet all to myself several times now, and my husband was the only cg in the CG Group this morning.

The chat groups do run smoothly now – no lags whatsoever! And there’s an automated ‘chatbot’ that chimes in and let’s you know when there’s only 5 minutes left in the session. It’s pretty cool. I hope yall will try it if you haven’t already.

    Take care ladies …

    Hi San

Adele has said almost all I can say. Over the years we’ve tried many different ways of running groups. One of the greatest frustrations can be when a member arrives late potentially disrupting or diverting the group away from the topic that was taking place potentially stopping someone getting the help they deserve.

The 15 minute entry is designed to get people into the groups and say there hello’s, then focus on what matters; the members, this we hope will make for a more dynamic group that will help many discuss issues in a safe & positive way with the time needed to do so , it’s not designed to annoy. We have you best interest at heart. Jane has also aid this is only a trial and no decision has been made regarding the future of the entry time.

San you wrote “With the time difference I cannot always be sure of the correct time to join in”, these comments always send alarm bells ringing so I checked your profile. Unfortunately your country, time zone was not set. Also the groups have an entry requirement on them. In your profile it asks are you a gambler or Friends and Family, this hadn’t been selected thus you wouldn’t have been able to enter the groups. The purpose of this is to ensure a gambler cannot enter a F&F group and an F&F cannot enter a Gamblers group ensuring total privacy.

I’ve made as many changes as possible that I hope will elevate your issues and allow you to get the support you need… Could I ask you to check your profile please and fill in any blanks or alter anything if I’ve made mistakes.

San as Adele has said the groups are running smoothly, were still making changes to enhance our members experience so I also ask you to hold on and try and enter the groups. Please dont let change stop you finding the recovery and help you deserve

    Kind Regards

Many thanks Adele and Harry for pointing me in the right direction :). It’s great to see ‘my’ times now on the group times, maths was never my strong point! I got to group yesterday and feel better now (thanks Velvet as always). That hour always goes so quick but as always, the advice and support is invaluable and I was able to slightly change the way I deal with my cg yesterday. It’s so easy to slip back into old familiar ways to cope with this addiction and the truth is if its not working you have to change something. From a technical point of view the group ran more smoothly, no lag etc and the reminder of only 5 minutes to go. I can’t remember if it said if someone was typing or not. I find that helpful on other chat groups, so you know to wait for a reply. Apologies if I let my frustration slip the other day, I had worked 20 hours in the previous 48 and was trying to deal with my very anxious cg and his dramas too (along with everything else). Many thanks for your support. San x

    Hi San

Im so glad you’re feeling more positive about the site. It was unfortunate that your profile was incorrect but this has also allowed us to rethink of options regarding filling in profiles correctly, it’s a learning curve for us too.

Glad your staying and allowing yourself to receive the support and help you have a right to receive.

    Take Care

    Harry
