Its funny how it always seems to start the same way. As I have read other peoples journals – it always seems to start with an innocent night of going to the casino with friends and of course winning money. It always seems so easy! Then keep going back and back and back to get that same fun feeling but it never coming back. Or to have that feeling but only for it to last a minute before you want to win more money.

I thought it was about money but there are countless times I have gone to the casino – double up – and then spend all my profits plus more in trying to win more.

I thought it was about fun – but now all I do is swear at myself for going back and back and back!

Then came the online casinos and the losses just piling up. Wish I could start this year over again from the beginning! I wish I never registered for my first online casino or second or third or 100th as they just keep originating faster than I could self-exclude. (In Canada there is not just one place to self-exclude from all online casinos! I wish there was one!)

I guess I will just have to start with today and work my way through day in and day out! I hope by writing about it will help in my therapy as I have booked a counsellor but not available until August 29th. Hopefully this will help me until then!

      About $25K lost in 2022
      About $75K lost overall.

Need a new beginning. Starting with day 1!

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
      Take care
      The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

Hi Morriso and welcome to the forum.

Firstly an apology – it shouldn’t have taken this long to approve your first post.

You are right, there are a lot of casinois, especially online. Get excluded from your usual ones then install a blocker for on devices to stop you signing up at others. Here is a link to details of various blockers https://www.gamblingtherapy.org/information/how-do-i-block-gambling-sites/

If you read the other stories here you will also see that financial accountability is also a good barreir – who could help you with that?

Again yes, there is a lot of gambling in Canada but the good news is that there is alos a lot of support available to you. Here is another link where you will find local support. https://www.problemgamblingguide.com/find_help___canada.html

The biggest piece of advice i can give you is to use support – if we could do it on our own then none of us would be here.

Keep posting here, hopefully I wil see you in one of the groups as well.
