When I look back all my loosing sessions of gambling over last 7 – 8 years one thing stands out that I couldn’t stop when I lost and I continued to loose big . This I believe is a gambling problem which can cause lot of damage . I wonder why can’t we stop when we loose ? Is seems natural to win back what has been lost but in gambling it doesn’t works it ends up in more losses and more losses . I have failed to understand these actions of mine .

      Hi Raj

Reading your posts they are always financial based, always analytical, you ask “Why” when the answer may well be “because were addicted or the answer may be “Why Not”

What Id love to read is more about you, how gambling has affected your life in non monetary ways.. look at the consequences of you actions and you may find it easier to stop thinking about the losses and start to focus on what you can realistically do to help yourself

      Hi Raj and welcome.

I am a compulsive gambler. Why? No idea really, the important question for me wasn’t – why? It was – what am I going to do about it?

For me that was getting to GA meetigns, putting barriers in place, being honest with family etc.

There is a lot of financial support/advice out there. Lots of options from bankruptcy through to repayment plans, with lots in between. Get that advice and support, Im sure if you connect to the Helpline here they will be able to give you some useful links to look at to help you do so.

What then? Unless you address the addiction then any financial solution will be short lived. As Compulsive Gamblers we have the tendency to climb out of one whole only to start digging anotehr one, usually deeper!

Yes teh finances do have to be addressed but keep posting and tell us about the steps you are taking to address your gambling addiction, the barriers you can put in place to stop this happening again.

      One day at a time.

I visited gambling recovery center last week and had an opportunity to discuss my gambling problem . I got two simple advise which I believe will help me and also others so I am posting it here .

      (1) Just don’t make next one bet .
      (2) Just don’t take next one loan .

It has been 10 days since I made my last bet and I have been able to not to make any bet even with play money . I have been able not even going into the website on my laptop ,casino is very far . But I wonder if this is because I am struggling for money only . Only with time will know . Would appreciate thoughts on how to not make next bet when we have money next time . Two things comes to my mind (1) Love of something (2) Fear of something . I am sure I have both and just have to develop more of it and make it stronger and stronger .

Ok Raj, why not list here the things you love which you would hurt if you gamble and the things you fear will happen if you continue to gamble? That way you can look back at your list when you feel the urge to gamble and remind yourself of the reasons why you don’t want to.

      Kind Regards
      Janey
