I just can’t. 99% of the time I don’t play, but eventually I get some money and I am back to the tables (typically poker, casino or online.) but also occasionally blackjack among other games. I want to quit so bad and stay quit 99% of the time but that just doesnt make a difference the other one percent. I give in and in that 1% i lose everything i own. I put as much money as i can get my hands on in action. I don’t know how to stop this. I know you guys preach 1 day at a time but it just doesnt work for me. It works for awhile but then I have money again and its out the door. Maybe I am not ready to quit but it still hurts soo much. I hope I hit bottom soon, maybe then I can quit.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Im sure you will be resading a lot you will relate to on the other threads here, you will also be reading the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
You can not gamble 99% of the time? Well as you have found the remainibg 1% can cause a lot of damage. How about when you reach that point you have already banned yourself from your usual/local casinos? Have a blocker installed on your PC? Are accountable to someone for finances and dont have unaccountable instant access to funds? Are regularly posting here and attending GA meetings?
Yes take things a day at a time but dont just do that – let us know what barriers you are putting in place and how you are taking positive actions to work recovery. -

… Maybe I am not ready to quit but it still hurts soo much. I hope I hit bottom soon, maybe then I can quit.Good afternoon Urbaldo, my name is Larry (screen name paul315) and I am a Compulsive Gambler, my last bet was Aug 13, 2009. Welcome to GT, it is a place you can find help; you will also find the friendship of others that have experienced all the things that you have and have felt all the same hurt and guilt – you are not alone in your trouble.
In fact a year ago I could not quit either, and my gambling not-gambling ratio was reversed compared to yours; and to be honest, gambling was 100% of my life. Today my life is 100% gambling free; and this is the story of many who started out in your situation — as said above, you are not alone in your troubles.
The 1% that you give to gambling is more than enough to destroy a life; however the remaining 99% is causing far more damage and are ***** that in reality you are also gambling with your life. Thought your gambling binges are periodic, the intervals between are not used wisely, are not being used by you for constructive thinking or to make any necessary changes to your life. These extended gambling free periods more than likely are also causing nervousness, irritability, frustration, indecision and a continued breakdown in personal relationships; destroying your life even when not gambling.
Keep coming back to GT and participating in all the help it offers, you will find ways to help you make the needed changes during your so called non-gambling time and put barriers in place to combat this addiction. I would think that you are ready to quit or you would not be searching for ways to help; you may not have reached what you consider to be "rock bottom" but your own rock bottom is the point that you are when you stop. Any lower place is only what others see as your rock bottom. What looks to others as your rock bottom, when a CG hits that spot, they keep going not seeing themselves as being in that condition, the CG keeps digging themselves in deeper and deeper, far deeper than what others think until they reach the point that enough is enough — fortunately this point, your rock bottom, may find you still in procession of some of the things you hold dear.
God’s speed, use your Higher Power to guide and strengthen you.

as soon as i lose i feel that pain and it keeps me away for a month or two (lack of money also does this) but as soon as i have cash again i am wasting it faster than you would think possible

Exactly. Thats why it’s NOW, while you are feeling that pain, that you need to start putting things in place. Then when you have money again the barriers will already be in place and your recovery will have started.

colin is their any good free gambling blocking software that you would suggest? I guess a cheap but more effective version would be a better alternative, if you know what is the best of the best feel free to point me in the right direction. I am having a hard day I still have some money to lose and im already thinking about what stakes I will play and what my new strategies will be when I play again. It;s so wrong but sometimes I can’t help myself. Ugh this is just such a bad sickness.

Well I read the first sentence here and was going to reply that sometimes some of them have a free intro offerfor a month but that the annual subscription is about £30 -£40 ish. Betfilter.com is as good as any i think.
Then I read the 2nd sentence – you still have money to lose? SPEND IT ON THE BLOCKER.
