It all started on a Wednesday, sometime in April 2015 walking in the street with a friend after my path physiology class, then this friend told me about a place he was the previous day a gambling house and how he saw how someone won a huge amount of money and he tried as well and made a few bucks, so I told him we should go there and that’s how I entered, never knew that was the beginning of my many problems. The first two weeks I won quite enough money $400 approximately so I thought wow this is the place and I kept on going there not skipping a day for like 2 month straight, then I lost all the money I made in two days, but I continue gambling but with little money. Then in summer I travelled home precisely Nigeria because I study in Ukraine. When I returned back to school I started gambling big money and at first I made gains then later everything started going down the drain spending my accommodation money, my feeding money in fact any money that comes to my hand I blow it away. Had regrets lot of time but I still returned to it whenever I get money and it got to a point I had to tell my parent about it and they advised me and sent me some money and I stopped for like a week then went back there and blew all the money left, and I kept on lying to them but the worst happened yesterday , there is this girl that I’ve been staying with and she has been the one feeding me for like 3 months now and I was at her house most of the time.p, tester after my class I went to this girl wardrobe and took $400 from her money and gambled away everything it was a shocker when I realized what I just did, my body went numbed I had no one to run to, I had to call my parent and told them about it they felt so disappointed and explained to me how they have been struggling because of me that the situation in Nigeria is very bad and there running here and there to get me money and your Mum started to cry over the phone they lost all faith in me and I felt really bad.. Now I know this is peak I have to stop I can’t let this destroy my life. I have to return the money to the owner. Sad story but there is always a new beginning and I hope this is it .

I am not sure the previous comment was very helpful. I have done similar to you over a longer period regarding money from my family and I did also take money without pemission -once.
Did you make arrangement to pay back the 400 usd>? Get in to see someone or go to GA meetings. YOu have shortcutted my 30 year descent into shit, but you need to take further action or for sure it will get worse. Try not to feel too bad about yourself, but if you are genuinely a good person then take action so as not to repeat above behaviour….

Hi Mosreal, I can tell you’re suffering from the guilt and shame of doing what many of us have done before and although the situation isn’t exactly the same the end result is usually similar. That terrible gut wrenching feeling of regret and
despair. The fact that you are reaching out for help tells me
that this incident struck a cord within you and maybe that’s what you needed to really see the devastation this addiction to gambling can cause. In my opinion everyone’s breaking point is different. If this is the worst case scenario for you, I think it’s a blessing in disguise. Don’t let what you did define you…make the decision to forgive yourself and then do what you can to make amends to your parents and your friend. It will take some time but they will see a better you in the end and perhaps come to understand this disease. I wish you all the best and hope you are feeling a little less pain right now. Take Care, iwillbeatthis

Hi Mosreal, well done on looking for help.

Many of us here, myself included, have done things we aren’t proud of. the past can not be changed. You can make amends though, you can repay that money. What arrangements have you made?

Can you speak to teh person concerned and make arangements to pay her back over time? IF your parents pay will you make arrangements to repay them?

You current financial problems will be dealt with one way or another, it is your gambling that now needs to be addressed.
Read the other stories here. You will see the sort of thing that has helped others stop gambling. Where do you normally gamble? is it somewhere that you can self exclude from?

There is a lot of help available to you. Here, other sites like this. i see there is a gamblers anonymous meeting in Ukraine, is that close to where you are?

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing
