Today I took the step to end my addiction of online gambling.
      n
nNot only is it not-legal where I am, I also see myself wasting money. I have only won one time, and nows the time to get it together. It’s so easy to simply blow $25, then it turn into $100-200
      n
nI took the step to begin closing my accounts…. One account I am in the top tier, and I am not proud of that… I don’t have an issue with in-person gambling, but online gambling…
nUsing my credit card to do is so easy. And also against T&Cs of them. My goal is to end this, and move on to be financially and addiction free.
      n
nI hope to find support here, as I am not open to telling my friends and family of my issue.
      n
nHas anyone had bad experiences closing their accounts? One site said an account manager has to approve?
nI’m nervous about all of this, but I have to stop and get out of it…

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

Dont let the casino tell you that you cant close your account. Just inform them of your intent to do so and make it final. I have closed over 50 accounts,at different online casinos and some make it easy, others not so much. If they quibble with you about closing it, see if you can impose a maximum daily bet on the account yourself. I do so if the casino drags its feet in closing my accounts. If you tell them that you want to self exclude then I believe that they are obligated to close it for you. Be the stronger and the wiser and know that they are trying to keep you to get more money, not because they love you. Dont let them manipulate you. Keep trying until they do it. Email them daily. Stay strong.

      Hi, throwingitaway,
      n
nWell done on closing your accounts. You can also get a blocker which will stop you signing up to others. If you look at the Gambling Therapy App there are links to things like that there.
      n
nMy advice would be to avoid all forms of gambling. It isn’t an online addiction, it is a gambling addiction. Cut out the online form and the in person gambling that you currently don’t have an issue with could soon become a problem – the addiction doesn’t care how it gets its fix.
      n
      nKeep posting.
