I tried to put my name in and it didn’t come up.  It may be archived.   I will try again.   This site was instrumental in getting me into recovery together with GA.

It was really nice chatting with you yesterday.  Don’t forget if you can’t get to a meeting there’s always groups that you can log into here and they also have counselling if you feel you need it.  The days and weeks will pass.  Call me if you need to talk.  Have a wonderful Monday.

You don’t say where you are located but I am assuming you are in the UK because of the bookies but I usually guess wrong.  You came to a good place.  I came here and was glad I came.  One of the first things I did was sign up for online councilling.  I went back to Gambler’s Anonymous.  I read and posted alot.  I went to group therapy.  You have already did step one – admitted that you are powerless over gambling and that your life has become unmanageable.  It sounds like you are ready to accept help.  It is time you start facing the fact that you are not going to win yourself a good life and get out of the **** that you have created being a compulsive gambler.  A lot of people will tell you to turn your finances over to someone you trust, ban yourself from the casinos or bookies and get to meetings.  I haven’t found any miracle cures for this as it is a lifelong disease that can never be cured and YOU CAN EVEN BE ******** if things get bad enough.  I should know as I spent 150 days in work release because I thought I could use money that wasn’t mine to get myself out of the trouble I made for myself.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.Winning a jackpot will never be life changing, but gambling compulsively is for me.

Welcome to this site.  I came here some time ago and it is a really good tool to use in your recovery.  As a compulsive gambler you have made the first step – admitted that you are a compulsive gambler and that your life has become unmanagable.  I don’t know if you have tried Gambler’s Anonymous or not but that is another great tool.  I think i takes a little bit of everything to get you through this journey.  I also signed up for one on one counselling here which really helped early on.  Put up road blocks if you can by having someone help you with handling your money and ban yourself from casinos that you frequent.  Banning yourself is really easy.  You go to the casino (don’t take any money, checks or credit cards with you) and tell them that you want to ban yourself.  They do so many of these that they are used to this request.  Keep in mind that if you go back and get caught sneeking in you could be ******** for tresspasing.  Keep reading and posting on this site.  Group therapy on this site is also great.  WELCOME to this site.  We are all here to help you if you are willing to accept it.Winning a jackpot will never be life changing, but gambling compulsively is for me.

    Hi Colleen —
Hope you are doing okay.  I know how hard it is early on in recovery and it looks like you are doing everything you can to help yourself.  Remember there are alot of people who are willing to help you whether it be listening to you or if you need a ride to a meeting until you get on your feet again.  I am going to be chairing a meeting next Sunday and it will be on a topic that I like from the One Day at a Time book (blue book) which is "Am I living in the problem rather than the answer" (I think or something like that).  I think sometimes we know what we need to do to get better but it is hard to keep moving.    Great job in making it through the first couple of weeks.Winning a jackpot will never be life changing, but gambling compulsively is for me.

Hi Colleen – I believe we met last night at GA.  Your story is very similar to mine.  Life does go on.  I had to leave a job that I loved back in 1997 after taking a large amount of money over a several years.  I spent 150 days in work release and actually started in GA around 1998 or 9.  I would like to say that I learned something and life changed for me but even smart people have to find their own path to recovery and I took the long way.  I came to GA in 2001 again and celebrated my one year, was cured and started believing that I could gamble like a normal person again.  I finally decided to lock the revolving door of GA 11/30/2008 and have been coming back every since.  I no longer entertain the thoughts of a big win.  Your story was very important to me in that it reminded me of my story and how I felt when I was in the position of explaining to my family why I no longer had the job that I held for many years.  I hope you do not mind me posting and keep coming back.  Use the phone list.

Sorry about your loss Kathryn.  Have a safe trip.  She is so lucky to have sisters on the way.  I have five sisters and you never know how much they mean to you until you need them to do the dishes or listen.Winning a jackpot will never be life changing, but gambling compulsively is for me.
