This is my first posting on here.
After years of moderate betting the last five years i have been hopelessly addicted to online slot machines.
Run up Credit cards to thousands.
I had reached a place where i wanted to quit gambling so badly.
So i now hope i am in recovery thanks to attending Gamblers Anonymous.
I realised i am a compulsive gambler and need to work every day to stay bet free.
I haven’t had a bet for 50 days now so i am pleased with that.
I can just about meet the minimum payments on my credit cards. After hearing some of the horror stories from other compulsive gamblers i wonder
if i have yet to hit my rock bottom as is talked about.
I feel grateful that i haven,t been to the dark places other have. One day at at time seems to work for me at the minute.

Hello Brian and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care

You posted: „After hearing some of the horror stories from other compulsive gamblers i wonder if i have yet to hit my rock bottom as is talked about.”
I was / am addicted to slots and I hit my own personal rock bottom when I realised that if I kept betting I would not be able to afford to service my credit card debt and that I might default on my mortgage and become homeless.
I didn’t wait until I BECAME homeless to take action – I knew there were further „rock bottoms” out there – but that was my red line. Like you GA was a big part of my recovery and once I was aware of what I needed to do I kept at it, despite having many „slips” along the way. I was still paying of my debts 20 years after first seeking recovery and 10 years after my last bet – but I was never homeless.
There is no need to experience further „rock bottoms” – work your recovery. 50 days is a great achievement – keep it going ODAAT!

Wow Brian
That is absolutely fantastic .
I guess I never did reach rock bottom but I was a breath away from it – I got help just before the house of cards came tumbling down.I know that whether we reach rock bottom or not , we are somewhere a lot nearer to it than we should be when we gamble. Every penny we give to the online, faceless leeches is a penny less towards our happiness.
Keep strong Brian x

day 71 gamble free now but no G.A.meetings to go to with the pandemic situation ongoing.
I feel i have the tools at my disposal from what I’ve picked up the last 71 days in G.A.to keep clean and free from the voice on my shoulder.
good luck to everyone at this difficult time and one day at a time folks -

Got 82days done and then i slipped twice in 3 days.
feel bad but whats done is done and I’m now on day 4.
i was so calculated, remembered my 16 digit credit card numbers and opened a new account.didnt do too much financial damage but I’m disappointed in myself.
hopefully what i learned in those 82 will show me that you can never become complacent. -

Brian
You are right – we don’t reset to day one – we take all the experience and learning of our free time and build on it.THis means looking at the things that allowed us to gamble – in your case the memorised credit card and making sure that can’t happen next time.
You could ring and cancel that by reporting it lost and simply cut up the new one as soon as it arrives. This way you have built a new barrier.
Keep going Brian – you deserve to spend your money on you and you deserve to be free of all the horrible emotions this brings.

I am also new here this is my first day. I already know im going to lose my stimulus check before I even have it cause of my gambling issue. What would any of you recomend I do to stop this? Just spend it as soon as I get it on something useful? I say this cause its happened so many times before that I pretty much know the urges are going to be there and Ive failed almost all of the time before so why is this time going to be any different? Everytime I get a sum of money it happens.
Ive taken steps to close my online accounts and all of the local casinos I have self excluded and they are not open now anyways. There is always ways though even gas stations. Ive been a online poker/gambling addict since I was 16 and im 30 now. Most ever went without gambling was for 6 months in 2014. Looking for that strength again.
