Hey all, I’m reaching out because I am trying to manage or maybe, if possible, stop my sports gambling addiction. I’ve lost a lot of money in the last month and it is really started to impact me financially. Even though I lose money, I keep placing bets that I think are a “sure thing.” I watch sports all the time so I think I can play the entire game out in my head beforehand. Last week, I was able to stop betting for four straight days and I considered that a decent start. I need to get more time to get back to be financially ”ok.” Right now, I am focused on not betting tomorrow. I try to keep barriers in place by leaving my debit card at home when I go to work because I would often go right to casino after work. I’ve tried to talk to people about it and they just don’t get it. They just say stop betting but it’s not that easy. The urges come really hard on the weekends. I slipped up today after wanting to bet all day yesterday and avoid it. I want to start posting on here to help me get some time. I just want a place where I can be honest and track my progress.

I need to keep busy read a book, hit the gym, and run some errands. I’ve noticed things usually go south when I start to look at the betting lines. Avoid the betting lines and avoid betting. The only sure bet is no bet. Let’s get a day!

It’s about 4:30 where I’m at, but we are almost there. One day at a time. I can’t say I didn’t think about betting; however, I avoided looking at today’s betting lines. I did check out a discussion board where people posts picks. It is definitely a trigger, but It is also a reminder about how time consuming and frustrating sports gambling can be. Let’s a get a day! The only sure bet is no bet.

It felt good ladies and gentlemen. Went to the gym, wrote a little bit, watched nat geo. I did tune into to watch sports and I was aware of the line but I didn’t bet. I was also able to concentrate and repair my broken toilet since I wasn’t consumed in a sporting event that I had action on. Let’s get another day tomorrow!

JUST CHECKING IN TO SAY, HI, BNDET.
YOU ARE DOING WELL , KEEPING UP WITH YOUR POSTS, DESPITE THE POOR RESPONSE.
IT CAN GO LIKE THAT SOMETIME.
YOU HAVE NOTICED THAT NON GAMBLERS „DON’T GET IT”.
I HAVE FOUND THAT TOO. WHAT IS OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE TO A PROBLEM GAMBLER DOESN’T SEEM TO HAVE ANY EFFECT ON NON GAMBLERS UNLESS OF COURSE THEY ARE „VICTIMS”.
KEEP POSTING HERE. YOU WILL GET SUPPORT.
JUST REACH OUT.
I WISH YOU WELL IN RECOVERY.
WELL DONE ON SEEKING HELP. -

I too fell into a trap with sports betting. A so called friend solicited me in a text to set me up with an online bookie back in August 2018. I knew better that it was not a good idea and ignored him at first. He would follow up to see if I had checked up the site yet. Eventually, I gave in and started betting. Lost 5k in matter of a few weeks. Took a break for about a month and a half and started up again.
In November and early December I went on a winning streak 4 weeks in a row and won over 8k. I was back even now, and up a little overall. I felt so good! I then went in a downward spiral as the Holidays approached. By mid-January I was 20k in the red. My so called friend loves to bet golf. I kept on asking him who the big winner was going to be week after week to make up all of my loses with 1 win. The hole I was digging just kept getting bigger until I was buried up to my head. By the time it was all said and done, I had lost 30k and created 10k of new debt for myself after being debt free for almost two years.
On February 9, 2019, I hit my low and breaking point. I came forward and told my wife everything that happened. She had no idea I was betting like this as I used accounts without her name on it. It felt like a ton of bricks lifted off my back by being honest with her. We are doing ok and trying to work through everything. 25 days now with no bets for me!
You can do this as well! In the end you will feel much better. How is your progress coming? I’m pulling for you!
