      Hello ,

Let me introduce myself to you , My name is Hesham . i am 24 years electrical power engineer , from Cairo . Egypt .

my english is not perfect so please try to stand my mistakes .

Back in 2010 , i was with a group of friends in Barcelona , the city is amazing . but .. it opened to me the door of hell , before i go to Barcelona , i knew nothing about gambling as according to my country and my culture gambling is forbidden for locals , the city is awesome , but starting from around 7 pm or 8 pm there is nothing to do in the city , so when of my friends said the only thing to do is to go visit a casino , it was a weird world for me , i did not understand any game ,even i did stupid mistake the first time i try to play , everyone was looking to me in weird way … i started to gamble with roulette , and SADLY i won good amount of money , i felt myself so important , i felt the whole world turn around me that i am the king of this world , i was inviting everyone to drinks , i was buying lot of expensive clothes , give tips to everyone , I felt myself unbeatable , and i left this city so proud of myself . and when i am back to my country i started to search for a way to play , as it is not allowed for egyptians to go inside casino , so i found the online casinos and i found online banks to deposit so the gambling stay away from my credit cards statements , and i started to play online in all the casinos , and in the last 2 years , i can say i lost every single pound of my income , i borrow money from everyone i know , literally everyone i know , i broke some future bank certifications , i did lot of stupid actions , i lost my life , i lost my time , i quit doing sports , i was stressed 24/7 and i turned from a very successful man with very high grades in college and schools to a big fail , trust me everyone dollar you win from gambling , it will be back and hit you 10 times more in losing , in stress in time and in life . it is the door of hell . and around 12 days ago , i decided to place a bet and if it wins , i will leave the money to the casino , to make me remember for the rest of my life how much money lose it is value in this place , and yes the bet wins . it was an average bet and yes i did not care about the money , i cared about living my life , then i went to block permanently the online banks and my credit cards and i decided to stop looking for superstars life and stop searching for easy fake money , i decided to be the best version of me,and to be my ownself hero . that is what i really need in my life now , i throw all the keys for the door of the hell in the deep ocean and i will never go to search for them again …..

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

Hi Hesham. Weldon for all the barriers arranged. I am sure you are on the right direction and will be better and better at it every day. If I am not wrong you where saying that you had some thoughts to by-pass the barriers? If it is the case, 2ble check that your barriers are bullet proof. And it is only you who knows where it might be a small hole that your addiction may want you to leave untouched in case of temptation. (do not forget Hesham, In terms of ways to block yourself from the sites and on line gambling I am sure others will tell you all the possible ways to do that. Weldon Hesham. Take it one day at a time.

Dear Hesham! Interesting to me that you are from Cairo. I visited Cairo in March of the following year of the devastating attacks on September 11th. I am from Canada and Egypt was interesting to see. I particularly liked the Valley of the Kings and the Egyptian Museum. It`s only recently that I have realized that gambling in Muslim countries is illegal, and that the penalties are tough. I am happy that you found this GT site. When I first started recovery I lived on this site reading other people`s stories, posting a lot, and participating in the chat groups. It helped me feel less alone, and that other people understood how compulsive gambling can become. I applaud your gamble free days and hope that you have many more. Find all the support you can here and GA has helped to set many captives free. Wishing you a gamble free day!! Carole
